Resolution: A Program for Building Local UAWD Chapters Grounded in Shop Floor Struggle

This resolution was passed at the Winter Membership Meeting via Zoom on January 25, 2026.

Whereas, the UAWD Member Platform grounds our vision of class struggle in “an ongoing effort we take collectively against the ruling class, through bottom-up organizing on the shop floor and in communities, to win the collective liberation of the working class around the world.”

Whereas, our June 2025 resolution, Reaffirming UAWD’s Organizing Committee, expands the role of our Organizing Committee to facilitate the creation of Local UAWD Chapters by members from all sectors, building on the March 2024 UAWD Organizing Vision and Plan.

Whereas, the Organizing Committee’s creation and successful launch of the Class Struggle Unionism 101 training provides a tool that UAWD members can use to convene coworkers in their Locals to consider how to build struggles at their shops and initiate Local Chapters.

Whereas, with the tools and politics UAWD has developed, we have established an organizational strategy for developing bottom-up shop floor struggle:

  1. The launch of Daily Struggle and our training create public-facing opportunities for UAW members to learn about our politics, connect with us, and become UAWD supporters;
  2. The establishment of our Membership Development Committee creates a structure for politically educating new supporters and onboarding them as UAWD members;
  3. A developed Organizing Committee will combine political education and practice to support members in creating Local UAWD Chapters as a vehicle for shop floor struggle.

Be it resolved:

  1. The Organizing Committee (OC) Co-Chairs, with the help of OC members, shall be responsible for: (a) Regularly engaging the Membership Development Committee to obtain contacts for any new UAWD supporters or Membership Pledge signers who have been identified as candidates for beginning to build a Local UAWD Chapter; (b) Outreach to existing UAWD members to facilitate meetings of members from a Local in order to build Local Chapters and struggle at their shops; (c) Supporting UAWD members in hosting small-group Class Struggle Unionism 101 training sessions to convene their coworkers, as a tool for initiating Local Chapters.
  2. Beginning in February 2026, each UAWD member shall coordinate with other members of their Local to convene a meeting to initiate a Local Chapter. All UAWD members shall participate in building their Local Chapter. If a member has an issue implementing any part of this language, they shall discuss next steps with the OC Co-Chairs or the full OC, who will recommend a solution with that member. Local groups shall report to the OC Co-Chairs about their progress and outlook for building a Chapter and struggle at their shops, and they may ask the OC Co-Chairs for support in doing so.
  3. As its organizing develops, the OC shall propose any needed updates to this resolution and the UAWD Bylaws at the next UAWD membership meeting.
