At our Summer Membership Meeting, UAWD members decided to take on building a vision of class struggle unionism, adopting a new UAWD Member Platform to chart a class struggle course! Below is a summary of UAWD’s Summer Membership Meeting on June 29, 2025.
UAWD members from Local 2325 gave a brief report about their sectoral bargaining and strike preparation for legal services workers across New York City, unifying more than 10 units across the city.
Members first considered two Bylaws amendments that had been proposed at our last membership meeting, both of which were adopted after debate: Establishing Definitions for UAWD Members and Supporters and Democratizing UAWD Steering Committee Elections.
Next, members considered a consent agenda, containing all motions that received at least 95% support in our pre-meeting membership poll and that did not have outstanding proposed amendments. One resolution was approved on the consent agenda: Resolution Reaffirming UAWD’s Organizing Committee.
Finally, members considered all other member-introduced resolutions. After significant debate over amendments that were introduced, with multiple amendments further amended and adopted, we voted to adopt Proposing an Initial “UAWD Member Platform” for Class Struggle Unionism. Four further resolutions were also adopted: Proposing an Initial “UAWD Member Participation Commitments”, Removing and Replacing the Former UAWD Steering Committee Members, and Resolution to Create a UAWD Publication Focused on Class Struggle Unionism.
Thank you to everyone who joined the Membership Meeting!
