CONTRACT FIGHT FAQ
How can I start preparing for the contract fight in my local?
Don’t go about it alone! You’ll want to identify some coworkers who are willing to help. Together, you can start taking first steps such as:
- Leafletting at the gates: When you hand a coworker a leaflet, try to have a short conversation to (1) identify what contract issues are most important to them and (2) get their contact information so you can keep them in the loop. Request free leaflets here.
- Hold 10 Minute Meetings: Get in the habit of holding very brief weekly meetings at your worksite that are easy for your coworkers to attend. Set a timer to make sure they are only ten minutes long. Stick to the agenda, and stop when the timer goes off! You can start by inviting just 3-5 coworkers, but the important thing is to grow the size of the meeting by asking each attendee to invite coworkers to attend next week. Read our Guide to 10 Minute Meetings for more tips.

WHAT IS A CONTRACT CAMPAIGN?
We’re backing our union at the bargaining table by getting our coworkers engaged and ready for a strike. A contract campaign is a series of escalating collective actions, like Red Shirt Wednesdays, rallies, and informational pickets, to show the Big 3 we’re united on the shop floor!
How does UAWD’s contract campaign relate to the International?
UAWD is connecting members across the UAW with resources and member-to-member support. We encourage members to take the lead in building up energy around a contract fight, which we hope will strengthen preparations for a strike that UAW locals might have in the works and also bolster the International contract campaign as it develops. When we stand united with our coworkers and prepare for a fight against the companies, our negotiators have more power at the table.
