UAWD Member Participation Commitments

As UAWD members, we believe that a membership organization composed of members who are invested in the organization’s political project fosters a democratic and deliberative culture. A more committed membership sustains and deepens participation beyond mere procedural democracy, and such a membership understands the connection between their shop floor organizing and the overall political strategy of the organization.

To create this participatory democratic culture, we are committed to making a good faith effort to do the following as UAWD members:
  1. Attending UAWD’s quarterly online membership meetings;
  2. Joining the UAWD General Chat and UAWD Slack to be able to engage when possible in collective discussion, political debate, and support for other UAWD members;
  3. Participating on a regular basis in at least one UAWD committee or an active effort to start or build a Local UAWD Chapter;
  4. Disseminating literature that our membership or Steering Committee determines is important for engaging the broader UAW rank and file.
